To Max MacDonald magazines isn’t just a book of bound glossy paper they are to take readers on an artistic journey using words and visuals. He began his love of fashion and magazines with Canadian Festival of Fashion, Fashion Cares, and was a regular attendee of the GQ Men of Style awards in Toronto.
While fostering love of visual fashion presentation, he was mentored by the likes of: Winston Kong, Wayne Boxx, Brenda Beddome of B. Scene, Wayne Clarke, and Hoax Couture. Each of these unique Toronto-based designers taught him couture basics to difficult menswear construction.
Years later in 2004 Max would start his fashion journalism career at abOUT Magazine where he interviewed: DJ Tracy Young, Calgary designer Haithem Elkaadiki and photographer Lewis Payton. Concurrently he was a contributing fashion editor to HighRise Magazine, JuicyStuff.ca, a contributing writer to XYYZ.ca, and Lola Magazine.
In 2008 he joined the FAB Magazine team which allowed his creativity, foresight and trend spotting abilities to explode as he handled all their fashion and style coverage in print, online and for FAB TV. At FAB he interviewed fashion personalities and royalty such as: Robin Kay, Joseph Mimran, Ms. Jay Alexander, Rupaul, Philip Bloch, Todd Oldham, Oribe, Cynthia Rowley, Ben Cohen, and many others.
During 2008-2010 he was OUTTv.ca’s first Toronto Fashion Ambassador, a Fashion Correspondent for Persian Television on Rogers Channel 10, and a fashion blogger for GayGuideToronto.com.
When not writing or in front of the camera. he’s on their air with Mike Chalut on ProudFM. Additionally as a sometimes model, he’s appeared in various print and online campaigns. Max is accredited media with Toronto, Mid-Canada, Montreal, New York, Berlin, Miami and London fashion weeks.
He’s a recipient of the Canada Council’s Travel Grant for Writers, a member of Fashion Group International and a proud graduate of both Centennial College and Royal Roads University where he completed a diploma and B.A. In June 2012 he was part of TNT Fashion’s Shopping With online feature. He would part ways with FAB Magazine in July 2012 to start The Edito Men’s Magazine Online.
