Converse Rocks the House This FW 13

A sneaker is just a sneaker right?! Wrong! This FW 13 Converse elevates their Chuck to be more a fashion accessory than shoe.  However this season Converse pumps up the volume on how music has influence their shoes. Shown at the Gibson Showroom, a musical space in Toronto where many bands record and play, the venue was awash with everything Converse including some unique pieces. Taking an influence from the Green Day collaboration for spring 13, Converse continues to rock out by having a range of music inspired looks from spiked sneakers (think Lady Gaga) to tall sneaker boots (a la Red Hot Chili Peppers).  Never to be boring Converse added: graffiti, skulls, green camouflage to the collection and continued with the highly-successful DC Comic range.  If you’ve been sitting on the fence about whether sneakers are kid’s shoes, we have news for you, they’re not.

The Second Coming of GSUS

Born in 1993 GSUS Sindustries has stood out for being known for their left and right brain thinking when it comes to fashion.  Combining precision craftsmanship with intuitive free spirited roots, GSUS strives for style that works in harmony but thrives for confrontation.

Russia is their inspiration for their F/W 13 lines The Dandy, Military, and Folklore.  With refreshing contrasts in colors, forms and detailing in a twist with blended mixtures of Russian influences and classic tweed fusing the nostalgic folkloric elements with a militaristic uniform outlook.

Long known for their amazing innovative clothing, they continue to be an industry leader by fusing the esthetic with the scientific.  Their F/W 13 denim line pays homage to some of the great scientific minds throughout history with the Tesla, Da Vinci, Bohr, Wright, Newton, and the Einstein jeans

Infused with rich Aloe Vera extract provides a rich soft feel to their jeans that has to be felt to believe, while softening your skin every time you wear the jeans.  They are hand dipped in dry resin it provides a unique worn in look while softening the denim, as well as an instinctive GSUS tweed print, which results in a tight woven herringbone denim.  All of this results in an eye popping luxurious jean that you won’t soon forget.

PazdravlyAyu (Congratulations) GSUS on a job well done!

The Emergency By Breitling Does More Than Just Look Good!

One fail safe accessory is high-end watches. But we are inundated with choices. What if we told you there’s a watch which can save your life? In 1995, Breitling developed the first wristwatch with a built-in emergency microtransmitter. Operating on the 121.5 MHz international air distress frequency, the Emergency was designed to enable accurate homing in on pilots or passengers following a plane crash. It was designed for constant wear on the wrist and thus as a complement to the standard onboard aircraft equipment.

The Emergency was tested and worn in daily use by the finest aviation professionals and the world’s greatest aeronautical teams. It has proven its worth in many search and rescue exercises and has become synonymous with safety and reliability for pilots around the globe. Around 40,000 such watches have been sold, and these exceptional instruments for locating and rescuing people in danger have indeed already saved a number of lives. Building on this successful and extensive experience, Breitling has achieved a new and unprecedented technical feat in presenting the Emergency II.

The Emergency II is equipped with a microtransmitter alternately operating on two separate frequencies over a 24-hour period. It transmits a first digital signal on the 406 MHz frequency intended for satellites and lasting 0.44 seconds every 50 seconds; as well as a second analog signal on the 121.5 MHz homing and rescue frequency, lasting 0.75 seconds every 2.25 seconds. Though this watch is not cheap, as it comes from the Breitling brand, can you put a price on your personal safety?

The Emergency II starts at: $15,750.

Lacoste Boldly Turns 80!

There are very few brands which reach 80. So when you’ve been around that long you need to celebrate and that’s what Lacoste is doing.  For a limited time Lacoste, in Toronto’s Yorkdale Mall, will have the celebratory 80th anniversary Peter Saville collection. Who’s Peter Saville? Saville is the man behind the iconic album covers for Joy Division and New Order. Hear from the creative legend himself by clicking on this text.

Saville turned to the core of the brand and its origins, designing a logo that represented the number 80 made out of tennis balls, that provided the frame for visualizing Lacoste’s past and present. As put by the designer, the mark is playful and fluent, celebrating heritage and allowing for the unexpected.

Lacoste wants to make this a memorable year by having: t-shirts, polos, sunglasses, and shoes with interchangeable tongues as some the products to celebrate the brand’s history. Do we think it’s worth the $100 plus price tag? Yes! Lacoste, in recent, years isn’t just revamping their image. They are giving it a good swift kick to the balls through innovative collaborations and limited edition runs. (Uh we mean tennis balls). We suggest you pick up a piece of this for when it’s sold out, there’s no more.

Dive Into Cove ThiryOne Toronto’s Newest Boutique Nightclub

Tucked away on Toronto’s Mercer Street, across from Hotel Le Germain, is Cove ThiryOne nightspot. At first this club may not look like much until you step inside. Once you have plunged into cove you are greeted by a cross between Mykonos meets Ibiza.

The owner of Cove, Tommy King, is infamously known in Toronto’s club scene for his parties including: IT Exit II Eden, X-IT and It’s A Boy’s Life series. “It’s Ibiza meets Mykonos meets Tel Aviv,” says King. “The venue definitely has a very unique vibe and is like nothing Toronto has ever seen.” King, a godfather to Toronto nightlife, brought the rave scene to the mainstream and now looks to do the same with boutique nightlife.

This two-storey venue is coral white with grooved accents throughout to give you an underwear transformation. Completing the ambiance is amazing food which ranges from simple canapés to full-on meatloaf sliders, plus a bar on each level staffed beautiful beverage mixologists.  We think that for a fun night out in Toronto skip the waterfront and head to the Cove.

Holt Renfrew Opens HR2 in Vaughan Mills.

Canada’s upscale retailer Holt Renfrew completely revamped and redid their concept of the lower priced Holt Renfrew at Vaughan Mills. For those guys who love deals, you will remember Holt Renfrew had their Last Call store where unsold merchandise found a home. Then items were severely marked down until sold. Those days are gone.

Visitors to the 25,000 square foot HR2 store can expect a lively, colourful and modern shopping experience, with weekly new arrivals in womenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories and jewellery.  “We are pleased to welcome customers to this exciting new store concept,” said Heather Arts, Vice President of HR2.

HR2 showcases over 150 brands with an assortment from the likes of Alice + Olivia, Diane von Furstenberg, Splendid, Michael Kors, Cole Haan, Ray-Ban, 7 for All Mankind, Nicole Miller, Elie Tahari, House of Harlow, Anzie, Naked and Famous, Hunter and HR2 private label. While some of the brands at HR2 will also be carried at Holt Renfrew, product assortment does not overlap. So is it worth a visit?

Yes! The great thing about HR2 is once something is sold out, it is gone for good. What are some of the deals for guys? Try a three-pack of Emporio Armani underwear for $19 or PRPS Denim shorts for $89. If you love a great deal we suggest you go this weekend! Our shopping caveat, buy it when you have it in your hand. HR2’s goods are so cool it’s not the type of store you can put something down, walk away, think about it, and come back later. It will be gone.

Should You Visit The New Tristan In Yorkdale?

Tristan, the Canadian label from Montreal, has always stood for casual menswear with a fashion forward edge. A few months ago we brought you Tristan’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Now we it’s time to go get the clothes. In a cocktail party for Toronto’s fashion press Tristan moved their spacious boutique to a slightly more paired down version of their former selves. However the store has kept the signature Tristan look. Located a stone’s throw from Crate and Barrel, the new Tristan store seems to have more menswear and carries everything the online store does.  So should you go over online shopping?

The answer is yes if you have the time. Believe it or not, the service is amazing and the staff is super friendly. That’s something you can’t get in the online store. We honestly say it’s worth the time to see the new Yorkdale store, if you have the time. But, as we know you are busy guys on the go, their online shop mirrors this dynamic retail store.

Armani Junior Aims To Comfort A Nation

From time-to-time we’ll be running stories for our readers who are fathers or uncles. Or for those men who have been “told” their appearance at baby showers or parties is mandatory. We our proud to launch our expanded coverage with this bundle of joy! If the thought of holding a generic baby blanket covered with blue teddy bears or pink fairies makes you want to wear a condom, you’ll love this limited-edition project from Armani Junior.

Canada’s Holt Renfrew has collaborated with Giorgio Armani and Free The Children to create an exclusive limited edition baby blanket. Proceeds of the blanket will support Free The Children’s international developing communities in Kenya, providing the necessary healthcare, clean water and support needed for Maasai Mamas and their babies through the first year of the child’s life.

The Armani baby blanket will be available for purchase at all Holt Renfrew stores across Canada and online at holtrenfrew.com beginning May 3, 2013.
